About Me

My first acting role was as the son of Tessie Hutchinson in an adaptation of Shirley Jackson's The Lottery in junior high school - no lines, but I stoned my mother's character at the end.  

In my 30's I joined a dance ensemble.  We performed at conferences, churches, & weddings.  I choreographed & danced 2 wedding pas de deux performances.

  I retired from a legal career in 2020.  Classes, primarily at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and private voice lessons, led me to acting in community theatre beginning at the perfect time... during COVID. 

The first play I authored, A Manny for Us (©2023), about a senior gay couple looking to hire a live-in helper (a sort of male nanny = "manny") was produced locally in 2024.  Two critics LOVED it and one critic was "mistaken."

A 10-minute play I wrote, Justice is Served (©2024), about 2 "Karens" getting what they deserved, won BEST SCRIPT at the 2026 DROP YOUR SHORTS Contest held at the Meow Wolf Theatre, Denver.

• Aug-2026 The Score is Thirty - Love ©2026  When a woman enters the coffee shop is heard to have ordered a tow truck, two misogynistic mechanics quickly learn than mansplaining cannot compete with a highly educated woman.  [Comedy - 1 Act - Run time ~ 10 minutes.]  Companion play to Justice is Served.

• July-2026  A Play in Progress ©2026  A romantic comedy where a chance meeting over lunch changes the course of Madison’s and Michael’s lives. But this romance occurs in the midst of       the play being written and the narrator, who is also the playwright, takes you inside his head to explain how the process works. As the play develops (and the love story) you will witness real-time changes in dialogue and settings. While the narrator may interact with the audience from time to time, the actors do not. The question is: How does the playwright end his story… or does the story write itself? [Romantic Comedy - 2 Acts - Run time ~ 80 minutes.]

• July-2026 The Barry Welkinstein Show ©2026    Barry’s variety show is the antithesis of a “Champagne Music” show of the 1950’s and 1960’s that many of us were forced to watch with parents and grandparents. The show is a satirical presentation with jokes and songs that would have given the 1950 era censors a stroke.  [Comedy - 1 Act - Run Time ~ 10 minutes.]

• July-2026  A Matter of Perspective ©2026  Ian has returned       from his 10-day hike and he’s still bored with his existence in the       idyllic community that offers weekly picnics, volleyball games, and bingo. He’s begrudgingly agreed to escort the newest resident to tomorrow’s picnic, an event he routinely avoids. However, at the picnic, his longtime neighbor will remind Ian of something that will put everything into PERSPECTIVE.  [Drama - 1 Act - Run time ~ 25 minutes.]

• Jun-2026  The Original Malware ©2026  A captain and 3 leaders wait in a cramped, undisclosed space prepared to lead a small contingent of soldiers in what could determine the outcome of a decade-long war. As hours drag on, tensions escalate, and plans are reviewed, the men manage their nerves in diverse ways. Can you deduce the ultimate “prize” they seek before the final lines are spoken? [Drama - 1 Act - Run time~5 minutes.]   Selected for publication in FRESH VOICES! (August 2026 Issue).

• Apr-2026  To Think it Started With An HOA Notice ©2026   George & Barb’s Christmas lights are still hanging in April so they received fines and a notice from their HOA which start an unexpected chain of events involving the media, a picnic, a secret neighborhood plan, and an even bigger surprise.  [Drama - 2 Acts  - Run time ~50-minutes.]

• Apr-2026  The Urgent Meeting ©2026   The 4 essential workers for a new celebrity are called together to discuss their frustrations in dealing with the boss and logistics in handling their duties. Emotions run the gambit at the pre-meeting before a more important event later in the week. At the end of this meeting you will understand how difficult things will really become. [Drama - 1 Act - Run time ~10-minutes.]  Selected for publication in UMBRELLAS FOR FISH (April 2027 Issue).

• Aug-2024 - Incident Interviews ©2024 - An ethereal being interviews three individuals while in between life & death to get their take on life, their feelings on what might happen, and what they hope will happen.  The interviewees' incidents involve an auto accident, a heart attack, and a suicide (attempt?).  Do they have any input on the decision?  Do you have an opinion on what should happen?  What would you choose in their place?   What would be your verdict for them?  [Drama - 1 Act - Run time ~50-minutes.]   A 10-minute except of the play received high scores at the OUR VOICES FESTIVAL.  I was invited to perform a staged reading of the play at the festival (Aug. 2026). Red Rocks Community College, CO.

• July-2024 - Justice is Served  ©2024 -  Two “Karens” (self-absorbed, entitled people) meet weekly in a little coffee shop to complain about everyone and everything making life hell for the barista. This short play highlights the ridiculousness of their self-absorption and suggests a possible just reward.  [Comedy - 1 Act - Run time ~ 10 minutes.]  WINNER: BEST SCRIPT - March - 2026 DROP YOUR SHORTS Contest at Meow Wolf, Denver.  Companion play to The Score is Thirty-Love.

• June-2024 - Tim the Titan ©2024 - Teenager Tim has only one real friend, Blaine.  Blaine encourages Tim to run for class president against the most popular kid in school -- not with the goal to win, but with the goal to make friends.  Tim reluctantly agrees and transforms in the process.  In doing so, he faces a reality he has long hidden away.  It may also cost him his friendship with Blaine.  The play touches on mental health issues and the human need for connection with others.   [Drama - 2 Acts - Run time ~80-minutes.]

• Jan-2024 - Who Says (the Show Must Go On)?  ©2024 - The board meeting of a small theatre company is much like any other, right?  Its members include the aging, original owner getting ready to retire, the former Miss Denver who still believes she is young enough to play the princess in the annual musical, the social climbing professional, the foreign-born accountant who never gets credit for carrying more than her share of the work load, the restaurant owner who is always attempting to squeeze in his business advertising into theatre promotions, and a few others to season up the mix, including the sexually-confused attorney who suggests that its new board member be "Blanche," an advanced, artificial intelligence, speaker-computer system.  Join the first meeting with Blanche and see how AI mixes with typical theatre people. [Comedy - 2 Acts - Run time ~100-minutes.]

• Oct-2023 - Camp Survivor ©2023 - Camp Survivor is a two-week program run by Dr. Thompson and his assistant, Dr. Stevens, for mental health patients who have survived a suicide attempt. The camp is located in a secluded mountain area. The only access to the civilized world is a satellite phone system and weekly food deliveries. The “campers” arrive for intense individual and group therapy sessions designed, as Camp Survivor’s motto puts it, "To Not Only Survive, But To Thrive."  But the campers are not thriving!  A series of unusual deaths start taking their toll on the guests and staff. Are they accidents or is something more sinister afoot? The audience faces the question: How do people, who recently attempted to kill themselves, react to a situation where someone is trying to kill them? Do they surrender or fight back?  [Drama -2 Acts - Run time ~100-minutes.]

• July-2023   A Manny for Us ©2023, 2024 - My first play concerns a senior gay couple who decides to hire a live-in assistant to help around the house - a male nanny - a Manny.  The interview process does not go as smoothly as expected; nor does adapting to having a 3rd male in the household.  "Funny and touching."  World premiere was July 26, 2024 for ten performances at the Wheat Ridge Theatre Playhouse, Wheat Ridge, Co.  [Dramedy - 2 Acts - Run time~2 hours.]

• Feb-2026 The Runner Stumbles -  A young nun has died under mysterious circumstances & Father Rivard is charged with her murder.  I played Rivard's supervisor, Monsignor Nicholson.  (9 performances) Sina Hirsch, Director, Elemental Theatre Company.  
• Jun-2025 The Waiting Room -  I played Walter Morris, an old man who discovered he just died and is being "processed" by the Gatekeeper.  (3 performances)  Performed at the 2025 Denver Fringe Festival.  Corinne Landy, Writer; Johnny Thornton, Director.    
• Feb-2024 The Triumph of Love - A farcical, gender-bending musical comedy based on the play originally written by Marivaux in 1732.  I played the prince's uncle, Hermocrates. (9 performances) Alex Romberg, Director, Wheat Ridge Theatre Company. 
• Aug-2023  Sherlock Holmes: The Case of Alice Faulkner - Written by Arthur Conan Doyle & William Gillette in 1899.  I played a less traditional version of Dr. Watson; one who believed he (Watson) was the smartest person in the room) and somewhat tolerated Sherlock's eccentricities. (10 performances).  Maru Garcia, Director,  Wheat Ridge Theatre Company. 
• May-2023  Diverse Voices Staged Reading - participated in staged readings of excerpts from two plays presented by Wheat Ridge Theatre Company.  I was Robert in Housekeeping & Father in Worry Dolls. (1 performance). Selena Naumoff, Director.
• Mar-2023  The Irish Curse - played Father Kevin who hosted a support group for men. This adult comedy tackled issues of toxic masculinity with humor and heart.  I was also one of the Set Designers for the play. WINNER - One of the Best Comedies of 2023, OnStage Colorado's 2023 Awards for Theatrical Excellence;  Jim Hayes NOMINEE, Best Supporting Performer in a Play, 2023 Broadway World Awards- Denver.  (10 performances). • Dec-2022  The 8: Reindeer Monologues - I was one of the reindeers, Cupid, who, along with others, had unpleasant reports about Santa in this dark, drama-comedy with a social message.  I was also Costume Director for the show.  Nominee, Best Costume Design of a Play or Musical, 2023 Broadway World Awards- Denver.  (10 performances).  Maru Garcia, Director,  Wheat Ridge Theatre Company.
• Nov-2022  Lysistrata - I played the Magistrate in this comedy written by Aristophenes in 411 BCE about how the women of Greece united to force peace:  No peace - No sex. (10 performances).  Mellisa Taylor, Director,  Wheat Ridge Theatre Company.
• Sept-2022  Queer Reading Series - Staged reading of one-act plays: Walter in The Waiting Room & Richard in The Pubic Works Department. [not a typo] (1 performance). Madison Kuebler, Director, And Toto Too Theatre Company.  
• July-2022  The Shadow Box - 3 cancer patients have been given the opportunity to live out their final days with family in cottages on the hospital grounds. I played the unseen Interviewer who observes & counsels them as they discuss their emotional & medical challenges.  (As understudy, I played Joe in 3 shows).  (10 performances). • May-2022  Information for Foreigners - An interactive presentation confronting the audience with diverse scenes related to violation of human rights.  As one of the Guides, I directed the audience through the difference scenes in the building.  (7 performances).  Maru Garcia, Director, Wheat Ridge Theatre Company. 
• Mar-2022  August: Osage County - DCPA's Adult Education's 2022 One Act Play Festival - Master Class - I played Charlie Aiken, the calming/comedic influence, in the tense funeral dinner scene. • July-2021  Colorado New Musical Festival 2021 - Rocky Mountain High - staged reading and performance of a new musical.  I played a sleazy televangelist, Zachariah Wright. (1 performance). Mary Wilkie, Director, Backstory Theatre.
• July-2021  Colorado New Musical Festival 2021 - Showcase - staged readings of scenes & songs from original musicals.  I played Antonio in Foodies; therapist Drew in You Go On; Mark in This Year, as well as a member of the ensemble in other scenes. • June-2021  Skullduggery, a drive-thru COVID-safe murder mystery.  Lord & Lady Ribbons are subjected to a murder investigation by Scotland Yard.  I played Lord Ribbons in the final scene/station.  (101 performances).  Maru Garcia, Director, Firehouse Theater Company. 
• May-2021  Perfect Mother, a drive-thru COVID-safe play tells the story of a mother who would do anything to keep her daughter happy...even murder.  I played the daughter's teacher, Mr. Roberts, in scene/station 5. (32 performances).  Maru Garcia, Director, Wheat Ridge Theatre Company.
• April-2021  Fuente Ovejuna, a drive-thru COVID-safe play based on true events in Spain in 1476 CE.  I was Mengo & Frondoso in scene/station 6. (49 performances) Maru Garcia, Director, Red Rocks Community College. 
• Nov-Dec-2020  Polar Express, based on the children's book & movie, Santa (understudy - 6 performances).  Rachel Graham, Director, Colorado Railroad Museum.
• Oct-2020  Murder at the Drive-In, COVID-safe, immersive play in a drive-in theater setting, I played Chuck, 1 of 7 speaking roles in a cast of 17, who battled zombies. (6 performances). Ren Manley, Director, Audacious Theatre Company.
• July-2020  Magic in the Marsh, COVID-safe theatre hike - played Barnelby the Bard who, with a minstrel, provided an overview of the quest through dialogue, song & improvisation.  Songs were in the style of a minstrel, Frank Sinatra & Elvis. • June-2022  Mortimus, short film where I played Hank, friend of Mortimus.  Austin Anderson, Director, Storybook Creative.

• Aug-2024  The Bonfils Girl -  the story of Helen Bonfils with 2 performances at the Ellie Caulkins Loft and 2 at the Historic Elitch Gardens Theatre.  I provided the voice of her father, Frederick Bonfils. (4 performances) Selena A. Naumoff, Actor & Director.  Act One Productions.

Improv

• Mar-2021 to Feb-2026  Dinner Detective - a cast member of the Dinner Detective, a murder mystery dinner theater cast performing private and public shows.  I performed all roles including host, co-host, victim, murderer, and detective, which include scripted lines and improvisational interaction with audience members.  I performed one or two times per month (more during the year-end holidays) usually in the Denver area, but occassionally in Colorado Springs and other parts of Colorado as well.  The Dinner Detective - Clearly Confused Intertainment, Inc.

• Props - assisted with preparation of scenery & props, including theatrical blood & blood balloons for Murder at the Drive-In.
• Set - assisted with the set design for Irish Curse and prepared all the church news posters for same including references for Sister Tiffany and Father Bruce.
• Legal & Accounting - as a former attorney and having managed CPA and law firms as the CFO and COO, I am intimately familiar with these office environments and their professional terminology should they be a necessary component for a role. 
• Wedding Officiant - I have officiated 8 weddings in Colorado.  I have extensive experience in projecting my voice to an assembled audience without the benefit of a microphone, often at odds with guests exhibiting elevated levels of intoxication. 
• Accents & Languages - Irish dialect class and studied Gaelic.  Although only fluent in English, I have had multiple years of training in Spanish, German and Latin.  I can sing Downtown in German.  I lived in New York for 12 years and can still recoup that accent.  I have had some experience with a British accent as well.
